Biden’s Debate Performance Puts Succession Plans In New Spotlight

“The removal of a CEO should not be predicated upon age, and is an unreasonable stipulation for termination from the position,” Dr. Nesochi Okeke-Igbokwe and CEO of his medical practice, said via email.

“If an individual (irrespective of age) is unable to meet performance and leadership targets, this may be an important provision in the contract of top level executives for potential termination. Stipulating that reaching a certain age is grounds to step down as a CEO is not only ageist, but may cause an organization to lose an exceptional leader.

“A CEO may consider resignation for their own personal reasons, e.g. facing a mental health or physical health crisis, family commitments, etc,” she advised.
